RELIANCE INDUSTRIES

Mukesh Ambani has his fingers in many pies, but presently they all taste yummy!

You can call him a ‘maverick’, for he strays too far away from conventional wisdom, but chances are that the larger-than-life Mukesh Ambani will simply ignore you, as he charts future successes for Reliance Industries. Be RELIANCE INDUSTRIESit his foray into the petrochemicals, exploration or organized retail, with every step Mukesh Ambani reiterates his ambition to dominate. “Our integrated and globally competitive portfolio continues to help RIL de-risk its business model and deliver superior operating performance,” avers the senior Ambani. Yet, market watchers have apprehensions regarding his bull run. Analyst Raj Gandhi of UTI warns: “The execution of these many projects might become a headache for Reliance in the long term.” Analysts may cry themselves hoarse, but with a record turnover of $25 billion for year ended March 31, 2007, Reliance Industries will be dictating the trends of the industry.

Live it up & pen it down

Pooja JAIN... is smart and sassy and she also knows how to make work fun!

While inheriting a readymade business may not be a tough nut to crack, the accomplishment of making Luxor the market leader in India is hers alone. As Executive Director, Luxor Writing Instruments since 2005,Pooja JAIN she has catapulted the Group to a Rs.300 crore entity, boasting world-class brands like Parker, Waterman, Paper Mate and Pilot. The Group is also the largest exporter in this segment, exporting to over 110 countries and has maintained its position for three consecutive years.

Other accomplishments for Pooja include setting up the Business-to- Business (B2B) division of the Luxor Group and launch of new products like Planet Sports. Pooja told 4Ps B&M: “Planet Happy is more than just a pen and I would rather put it as colouring, learning, fun product.” Crediting her passion and constant innovation for her success, Pooja’s next big plan is for her chain of designer stationery stores called ‘Signature’. Achievement for her goes way beyond awards and she is extremely proud of the acclamation that her products have got.

In addition to her responsibilities in the writing instruments business, Pooja is also leading the Group, under the guidance of her father, into other diversified businesses like hospitality, real estate and broadband. One advice that she would happily give to today’s working women is to, “Never Give Up!”
